August Tips: Keeping Your Yard Fresh Through Late Summer
August can be tough on your yard — the heat, dry spells, and heavy foot traffic can take a toll. Here are a few simple tips to help your outdoor space stay healthy and looking great:
1. Mow Smart
Keep your mower blade set higher in hot weather. Taller grass helps shade the soil, keeping it cooler and reducing water evaporation.
2. Water Deep, Not Often
Instead of watering every day, give your lawn a good soak 2–3 times a week in the early morning. This encourages deeper root growth.
3. Trim and Tidy
Now’s a great time to trim bushes, pull weeds, and remove any dead or damaged plants. This keeps your landscaping neat and preps it for fall planting.
4. Deck and Fence Check-Up
Summer storms and sun can wear on wood. Walk around your fence or deck — look for signs of warping, loose boards, or peeling stain. Taking care of small issues now saves bigger repairs later.
